Watching a Youtube playlist. Suddenly the new video does not start and the are where the video is supposed to be is just a black box. The same on an embedded page when I checked.

No controls. No settings or right click option, as though the FlashPlayer is missing.

I uninstalled FlashPlayer, retstarted the PC (W7 64) and re-installed FlashPlayer using version 10.3. No change.

Cleared Firefox cache and cookies, inserted https, no change.

I updated to Firefox 14, which I had delayed, no change.

YouTube runs fine on an Internet Explorer I found.

Any ideas?

Did you try to clear the local Flash storage?

clear the Flash local storage and settings.

  • Windows Control Panel > Flash Player > Storage: Local Storage Settings **Remove a specific domain: Local Storage Settings by site **Remove all domains: Delete All and Delete Data

Flash Website Storage Settings panel:

Global Storage Settings Panel:

You can also try to "disable the hardware acceleration" in the Flash Player.

Thanks for trying. If I had installed or re-installed something, I would understand the above suggestions. But this happened while watching a working video player on a working system.

I do not have ANY controls or even the impression that the FlashPlayer is loading at all.

Solved!

I played around with safe mode and the add-ons and lo and behold, it's Google.

Google has decided to block all users of Adblock Plus with Firefox on YouTube and not make their videos available to us. Smaller browsers can still block ads, but not Firefox and Adblock Plus. This might be applicable to other ad blockers too.

So FireFox with Adblock Plus either has to up their game or knuckle under.
