Mozilla Firefox: Although the following tabs were closed when I exited Firefox, they reload every time I

restart Firefox. I have had this problem in the past with some of the same pages

reloading. How do I get these pages to stop reloading every time I restart Firefox?

Although I CAN just close the pages, it gets tiresome after awhile, closing the same

pages time after time.

I have to admit, I am about to give up on Firefox. This is at least the fourth or fifth time

I have had to revert Firefox to a new profile and reinstall all of my Firefox add-ons and

rebuild my personal toolbar. This takes me several hours and has gotten to the point

that it is just not worth it anymore. If Firefox wants to remain my browser choice it will

need to overcome this unacceptable behaviour. Additionally, when Firefox reloads a previous session, it does not reload the tabs, and

I must select each window and request Firefox to reload all pages each time.

Perhaps it is the addons that I use. But I don't care. If I must validate each addon

myself, what is the point of using Firefox. Apparently Mozilla doesn't care whether an

addon is effective. Some level of qualification should be required before an addon is

listed on the Firefox website. Currently it is Xmarks that seems to cause Firefox to

crash every time I allow Xmarks to load. But Xmarks doesn't allow me to cancel it. It

only gives me an option to load it. I guess I could uninstall Xmarks, but I have enjoyed

its utility over the many years I have used it.

If Firefox wishes to remain dominant it needs to address these problems, or many of

us will switch to Google Chrome.

I am about to start using Google Chrome as my default browser now. So what say you Firefox, are you going to get your act together, or allow us to defect due to your apathy.

Additionally, when I do have a problem I frequently get the message that support is not available.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Yes this wasn't helpful for me either. I now make 3 people who found your suggestion ineffective. In my case, following your suggestion caused Firefox to lose all of my current browsing history.

Based on your less than helpful response, I think it is time to leave Firefox behind and search for a better (less troublesome) browser.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

There is a checkbox for this.

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > General

Uncheck "Don't load tabs until selected"

If it's grayed out, change the "When Firefox starts" drop-down temporarily to "Show my windows and tabs from last time", uncheck the box, then change the drop-down back to your preferred setting.
