firefox crashes when trying to attach a file to gmail compose
Vista 32 laptop. When trying to attach a file to a gmail compose, explorer dialog pops up and then firefox crashes. Happens every time, and started (I think) with version 16 or 17. Updated plugins, went through troubleshooting on help menu, tried safe mode. All to no avail. IE works fine.

After going through all the services and startup programs using msconfig, I isolated the problem to a conflict with Dell Media Center in the startup. I deleted the software (preinstalled on the laptop) since I never use it anyway, re-enabled the flash hardware acceleration and deleted the protected mode line in the flash cfg file.
NO MORE CRASHES when trying to attach a file to a gmail post!

We are aware and looking into this issue; Bug 802825
This report is about the Flash plugin:
- bp-f13d802e-81d7-48fb-b101-ecdd22130310 3/9/2013 8:00 PM
Make sure that you have the latest version of all plugins.
- http://www.adobe.com/special/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
- disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
Moambuepyre
I disabled protected mode by inserting ProtectedMode=0 in the cfg file, but this did not solve the problem.
How do I disable hardware acceleration in the flash plugin? I did not see the instructions in your links.
I did see the recommendation to revert to flash 10.3 - is this something I should try?
See:
Flash "Display settings" window:
I disabled the flash hardware accelerator and attaching a file to a gmail compose still crashes. There is one difference - the file started to load into the email before crashing instead of crashing immediately.
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
In safe mode with networking, the compose with attachment works fine. Rebooting in normal mode, and it does not work. Where do we go from here?
You may have security or other software that is blocking the uploading of the files.
So you can check the settings in those programs.

Is there a fix for this as of yet? In my case there is no Dell media Center and its just occurring approximately every 15mins or so when attempting to attach a file in gmail.
