Every time I want to play an MP3 that is online, a new tab opens in Firefox and the MP3 is played inside Firefox. No matter what I do: I did set MP3 to play with Windows Media Player (or Always Ask) but Firefox ignores that setting. Or with another mediaplayer, Firefox still keeps on playing it in the browser itself. I know that it has something to do with Quicktime cause when I uninstall that, MP3's are opened in the mediaplayer of my choice. But as soon when I have Quicktime (or Quicktime Lite for that matter) installed, Firefox ignores my settings and only plays it in the browser. I do need Quicktime for my music and video editing software, otherwise I would not install it. The codec alone with Quicktime Lite does the job, but also with that Firefox will not play MP3 and MP4 files with my player of choice. Same goes for MP4 files: no matter what I do, Firefox is playing it in the browser itself instead of the setting I made in the Options of Firefox to set my player of choice.

hello meegja, enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named media.windows-media-foundation.enabled. double-click it and change its value to false - this will also disable native html5 playback support for mpeg formats that are embedded into websites though...

Hello Philipp Okay, that worked, thanx!! :) And well, not having HTML5 video playback is not a big issue I think. I mean, till now I only encountered low(er) quality playback when HTML5 is used. At least, my 1080 HD vids on YouTube are low quality on high settings when played with HTML5 enabled.
