Hello,

I'm using Firefox 27.0.1 and I'm getting ridiculous memory consumption figures from my task manager. 1.40GB with 2 tabs open. The addons I have installed and a screenshot of my task manager will can be accessed through below links for your review.

Hi Da7mi, sorry you are having problems.

Thanks for starting your own thread about this problem. The original long related thread being:

  • Firefox 23 uses 1.2 GB of RAM with 4 tabs open! /questions/967643 (Automatically archived and closed as an old dormant thread)

It is very hard to generalise about what is normal memory use for Firefox, but using 1.4GB for 2 open tabs seems extremely unusual, and highly excessive. As you have probably realised easy to find and fix memory issues have probably been dealt with. What remains are the many real but hard to properly identify issues where often

  • No one has yet demonstrated Steps To Reproduce that are good enough for a bug to be filed.
  • Or the issue is due to third party software or site use.

The long thread will have suggestions and links to useful articles. With longer explanations and details about testing. May I ask that you try to help with some troubleshooting here. Please post back if I need to expand on this.

  1. Let's as a test comparison try using Firefox in a simpler configuration with less complicating factors. Please run as follows
  2. Obtain memory results from about:memory Firefox's own reporter.
  3. Site issues. Do you notice any pattern with memory use problems ?
Is it only high on certain sites ?
Or when there is video content for instance, or webmail use ?
    • Please as a test try browsing and restrict open windows & tabs to a single site.
    • Try twice with separate sites. To demonstrate that it is not an issue on only one specific site or type of site.
This forum site support.mozilla.org would be one good site to test with.
As another please try something that is public and not needing any login

Have you tried Firefox safe mode?

If it uses less memory in safe mode you may need to disable addons and or hardware acceleration.

More info is in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode articles.
