In Nightly there is no add a new device option in the Sync menu so no easy setup. I thought hey I could just do the advanced setup right? Well, no, since there is literally no way for me to find my recovery key. In the manage account menu the only options are sign out and change password and the page which is supposed to help me find my recovery key (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-choose-what-types-information-sync-firefo#w_where-can-i-find-my-recovery-key) has 0 mention of it. I then tried to find my recovery key using the normal FIrefox but still no way for me to find it.

hello Therin, on firefox 29 and onwards there is a different sync version, that will only rely on a mail address and password and doesn't require a recovery key anymore. the new sync isn't compatible with any existing sync account created on firefox version 28 and below that.

Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more

There is a new version of Sync coming with FF29.

It doesn't work for me yet though.

See "Why does Firefox Accounts require me to choose a password?":

In the FxA backed version of Firefox Sync, we will encrypt your Sync data with a key derived from your Firefox Account password, instead a random key managed by the J-PAKE pairing protocol.

That still doesn't solve the other half of my problem: no way to add devices since there is no add a new device option therefore making sync unusable.

to add other devices (they have to be on firefox 29 and up) to the account, you simply enter your mail and password for the account there.

That is the part which doesn't work for me using FF 29 Aurora. How do I create a Firefox account?

When using the AppMenu button - Sign in to Sync - Get Started, all I get is an empty white rectangle.

does it work if you manually enter about:accounts into the address bar? otherwise please also try it once while running firefox in safemode to rule out the influence of any addons: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

Safe mode makes no difference. Is this supposed to work at all yet?

is services.sync.fxaccounts.enabled set to true in about:config?

Yes, it's set to true.

If you had selected the Using an older version of Sync? at the bottom of the Welcome to Sync window you would have been sent to this page in the Knowledge Base.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-update-to-the-new-firefox-sync?redirectlocale=en-US&as=u&redirectslug=how-sync-works-old-version-firefox&utm_source=inproduct

First thing you have to do is to Unlink all your other devices, then setup Sync for the new version. You will only be able to use Aurora or Nightly versions on the new / updated Sync account, so plan accordingly.

What makes you believe I hadn't looked at that site?

This profile does not have the old Sync set-up.

Anyway, I think I found the problem. One needs to allow cookies for accounts.firefox.com.

I'd hope that this will be documented in the Sync support article, as I don't think I'll be the only one running into this.
