How can I stop websites creating/updating cache files when I'm not interacting with the web page? Firefox constantly has a cpu/disk usage.

I keeps lots of pages open (almost 100) but they are continually adding/updating cache in the background. More than 1gb of cache is created withing a couple of days.

Thanks

I have used Firefox for years and been 100% satisfied. Then I discovered Reddit and my inability to "reply" to any of the thousand posts there. I also have seen ALL the fixes people have done to make that work - and the resulting 100% lack of success. More recently, I have discovered X, and was able to "do all the things" on that platform....until now. Now it won't even OPEN X!!!! WTH? It says it was a failure. No kidding. Then I heard that I should remove enhanced tracking. Did that. Still failure.

Why are we going backwards with this browser? I am stunned that it won't even open a major, major internet platform. What can I do?????

I guess it's back to Safari. Yes, I'm on a Mac. But that shouldn't matter because until this last update, at least X worked.

Hello, I’ve been having this weird artifacting happen on YouTube when skipping ahead or backwards with the arrow keys, or when scrubbing/clicking on another point on the time bar. It’s this garbled mess of the last screen that stays there until a new shot or enough of the current image changes. It is really annoying as I am someone who tends to skip around a lot in videos and I tend to have to replay parts because of this or just deal with this mess. It only happens on YouTube and only on Firefox for some reason. If anyone knows what could be causing this, I’d really appreciate it. I haven’t been able to find a similar issue online, maybe I am searching the wrong thing. Tried to get some screenshots of it with something that would really show it. This has been happening for a while. I use a Mac Studio with an M1 Max since it released in 2022. I've tried reinstalling Firefox as well and that did not fix it.

This happens on any video regardless of what quality settings it is at. I've tried adjusting hardware acceleration to no avail. I dont really know what else to try at this point.

I was live streaming last night, and the page started acting up, so I refreshed it, and my camera disappeared.

I went to my stream settings, and there were no cameras available (I have 3 running and available always).

I went to my permissions page, and all permissions were enabled. After finding a troubleshooting page that showed me how to get to Firefox's "Troubleshooting information" to see all Input Devices, and there were no cameras. Screenshot attached. (Funny, because the "C920 Webcam microphone" was listed, but not the camera)

When I reboot/refresh Mozilla, I AM able to see and select a webcam, but only upon initial startup. If I refresh the page, or open a new streaming page, all cameras disappear again. This is not a long-term work-around, as refreshing FF clears my cookies/cache and I have to spend 30 minutes setting my stream pages up from scratch.

Any ideas what could cause this, and if there are any other troubleshooting steps worth trying?

I am using Firefox as my default browser in Windows 10 Enterprise. Since making it my default, the computer takes forever to start up and often gives me "not responding" messages when trying to open a documents search or other tasks. When I open the Task Manager to stop a stalled task, I noticed that Firefox is using over 3800 mb of memory, more than three times as much as any other browser, resulting in over 70% of my memory being taken up. I am assuming that Firefox is therefore not sleeping or suspending unused tabs. Is this so? If so, is there an add-on or tab manager that will suspend currently unused tabs? I've tried to use the suggested tab managers but found them impossible to figure out. Why don't these add-ons provide instructions on how to set them up?

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

This afternoon, I was browsing and archiving many of my saves, and I frequently received the message that "Something went wrong retrieving your Saves". I have not had this problem before. There's about 6800 articles in my Pocket presently. Am I reaching some kind of limit for maximum articles I can save?

I have already converted my account to login using Mozilla (summer 2023) and I've been using the firefox browser this afternoon.

Would appreciate any insight you could share. Thanks very much.

All I got when trying to drag photos and URLs to my desktop was a red circle-slash. Turns out Firefox is the only browser that insists on UAC being turned on, apparently a -no-deelevate problem — whatever that is. Despite three calls for help here, not a single person read my post. Of course, there's o Mozilla support.

A bigger revelation was that users are not allowed to uninstall Firefox. Requesting uninstall in Control Panel is not an option. Firefox only allows you to initiate a repair. Takes combing through every Mozilla and Firefox entry in App Data and RegEdit to get rid of this pest.

Enough. I've gone from Mozilla to Nozilla.

I'm unable to stream content on Spotify and Netflix in Firefox due to a recurring "WidevineCdm plugin has crashed" error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steps I've already taken to troubleshoot:

  • Ensured "Play DRM-restricted content" is enabled in Firefox.
  • Tested with a completely clean Firefox profile.
  • Tried the portable version of Firefox (131.0.3) as well, but the same issue arose.
  • Verified that streaming works fine on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, so I don't think it's an issue with my PC or security software (I temporarily disabled it for testing purposes).
  • Made sure I'm not using any VPN or proxy.
  • Performed a clean reinstall of the latest Firefox version.

System information:

  • OS: Windows 11 (23H2)
  • Firefox version: 132.0

Clearing cache won't help, not restarting it in Troubleshoot mode, etc.

Firefox is up-to-date and this was fixed a couple versions ago.
