  • Check for new messages every __ minutes: Make Thunderbird check for new messages automatically on a set time interval.

When I delete a message: (IMAP accounts only) By default, when you delete a message, Thunderbird will move it to the Trash folder for that account. Here, you can change that behavior.

  • Move it to this folder: Instead of moving the message to the trash folder, use this menu to select a different folder where messages will be moved to.

Digital Signing

When you digitally sign a message, you embed information in the message that validates your identity. This is accomplished by using a digital certificate to sign your messages. For more information, see Digitally Signing and Encrypting Messages.

  • Never (do not use encryption): Set this preference to only encrypt messages that you choose when composing the message. You can encrypt a message in the composition window by going to the Options menu and selecting Encrypt This Message.
  • Required (can't send message unless all recipients have certificates): Set this preference if you want all messages being sent to be encrypted.
