I followed the help link you guys have already created. It instructs to go the 'show all bookmarks' window and drag an already created bookmark to a vacant spot on the 'new tab' page. This doesn't work for my PC as after i drag the desired bookmark, it just opens that page on the new tab page. Please help out with how to add new tiles to the blank new tab page.

I figured it out.

I can not find anywhere in the instructions where it says Firefox must be set to remember history in order for this to work. But it does.

I set Tools -> Options -> Privacy Firefox Will: Remember History

and it works fine.

I can understand why Remember History needs to be on to have FF build this list automatically. But why does it need to be on to build this list manually?

Oh well.

I would high recommend that FF update their documentation.

You have to make sure you drag it to a thumbnail spot and wait a second before you drop it. If you drag it quickly or drag it to a spot that is not a thumbnail it will just open that bookmark.

Let me know how it goes,
Michael

What kind of link are you trying to block?

Note that you cannot drop links to local file and possibly there are other links that can't be dropped.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

The instructions on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-tiles-work-firefox?esab=a&as=aaq do not work for me.

The instructions "You have to make sure you drag it to a thumbnail spot and wait a second before you drop it." do not work.

Instead, I drag my Bookmarked site to an empty square on a new tab page. I wait for 10 seconds. I then drop the link and the page is opened and the link is not saved on the new tab page.

So, why does this not work?

Are that normal http or https links?

The instructions for Safe Mode need to be updated as they do not work.

I tried Shift and launch windows - that did not work. I looked in the hamburger menu, and there is no ? or help. I enabled the menu tool bar and I found Restart without any addons.

It does not matter as it did not work in Safe Mode. I enabled the tool bar and enabled the view Bookmark toolbar. I then went to a new tab page, and drug the url to one of the nine blocks and the same thing happens. Nothing is dragged to the block and the the web page for the url is opened.

Next thing to try?

Hi there,

You want to save websites in the Firefox tab page tiles, this is how I do it. You have to have the bookmarks bar enabled if it's not showing in your Firefox.Right click on an empty space to the top of Firefox & click Bookmarks Toolbar,It should show under the address bar & search bar like mine.

Go to what sites you want saved in the Firefox tab page, drag & drop the site in the Bookmarks bar.Open the Firefox tab page, now drag & drop what you saved in the Bookmarks bar onto one of the tiles,It should work.

You can delete any sites saved in the Bookmarks bar, right click on it & click delete.

Sites saved in the tab page may need to be pinned if you clear cache, history & cookies.

Afirefoxuser,

Sorry, I do not understand how you: "click on an empty specs on the type of Firefox AND click on Bookmark Toolbar". I can click one or the other, but not both at the same time.

My search box and bookmark tool bar look just like yours.

What you do not understand is I do: 1. Go to what sites you want saved in the Firefox tab page 2. I drag & drop the site in the Bookmarks bar. 3. Open the Firefox tab page 4. Now drag & drop what you saved in the Bookmarks bar onto one of the tiles,

Does not work!

That is why I am asking the question because as far as I know I am following the above instructions and it does not work.
