Could you test a couple other things: (1) Mozilla Support menu item Tap the Alt key to activate the classic menu bar, then Help > Firefox Help Can Firefox load its own support site? (2) Search bar On the main toolbar, the search bar is the shorter box to the right. When you start typing a search in that box, you will see icons for other search sites. After typing your search text, try clicking an icon for a different search site to see whether it goes through.
