Is there a way to merge (not overwrite) bookmarks from my old computer and my new one?

I would like all my bookmarks in one place, but I synced my 2 computers before I imported my old bookmarks from my recently dead computer. When I imported the old bookmarks, it overwrote the existing bookmarks.

I think I might be able to un-sync the computers and restore the older one then sync them again, but I am afraid to try. Would that even work?

These instructions will merge the files together. Note: You may end up with duplicates.

These instructions are for Firefox.

Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Export Bookmarks To HTML, and follow the prompts and save it to a HTML file. Copy the file to another computer. Repeat the instructions above, BUT select Import Bookmarks From HTML.

I need to merge two Firefox .html backup files on the same computer.

I rearranged my bookmarks and some bookmarks folders and sub-folders got lost.

I wouldn't trust trying to merge two different HTML-format export files in an editor. It would be better to import them into Firefox or another browser individually and then clean up after that.

In Firefox's Library dialog, one of the menus has an Undo option, but it only works as long as you're in the same Firefox session. Once you exit Firefox, it will be grayed out.

I'd thought about importing the file with the missing bookmarks, but am cautious about the second file overwriting the most current file.

I once was able to restore some missing bookmarks by recreating a new first level file with the exact same name.

Thanks for the idea.
