You could try this: - Open Windows Services by pressing Start and entering services.msc in the search box, then hit enter (or using the menus) - Find the Windows Font Cache Service and stop it, if not already. If it is not running, start it instead. - Try starting Firefox. And sorry but this is the 3rd time I ask: did you add an exception in Symantec for Firefox? Edit: I’d also recommend to restore the default font settings as explained here, since the previous copy action seems to have made things worse.

Hi, I am not allowed to disable Symantec on my laptop. But I guess I have resolved the issue with some trial and error by taking below steps : (1) Cleared the cache by following steps given by you - both in local and roaming (2) Deleted both profiles (3) Uninstalled firefox completely (4) Removed all components of Mozilla from laptop (5) Restarted Windows in SAFE mode (6) Again restarted in normal mode and installed Version 54 (7) No changes in About:Config (not even Cairo, Skia), no changes in Font (8) No changes in Syamntec

Somehow it is not crashing now. Is there anything that I can check and upload the report here so that we all know how this painful problem got resolved on its own? Please advise. I am happy to have it restarted after grueling efforts of a week.

Hey Steve, this is page 2 of a solved thread. Please start a new question if you would like personal assistance. You can use this link:

https://support.mozilla.org/products/firefox/fix-problems

Scroll down past suggested solutions to continue with the form.

To assist with crashes, it's really helpful if you can provide crash report IDs. This article describes where to find them: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) ("Get Help" section).

Finally, if you find Firefox 53-55 to be problematic for you, consider switching to the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52. It will be getting security updates through next Spring, but no new features. If you prefer stability, that might help. You can learn more about it here:

I've just realized where the problem lies. FF used to be a basic, no-nonsense browser that was bulletproof & always worked. If you wanted anything other than basic browsing there where plenty of dedicated, expertly written add-ons to choose from. Now that FF has decided to add every bell & whistle, every little bright shiny thing it could find to replace those specialty add-ons it has become unusable. Instead of only adding those few extras that we actually needed we have now had the complete, overblown, unweildy, unusable package dumped on us, like it or not. How about you give us back a good solid browser & let us decide what add-ons we need - after all, every single user has their own unique needs & 'one size most definitely does not fit all'. We are not morons, we can make up our own minds about our needs & choose our own add-ons. Also, by cutting out all those plug-in providers you have virtually blown-up the schoolyard where those future programers cut their teeth & learn their trade - very short-sighted & bad for the industry. FF was so popular in that it empowered it's users with the ability to tailor the browser to suit their own particular needs, now it's just another 'take it or leave it' & quite frankly Chrome is now the better browser (why? Because it's not overblown or bloated). C'mon FF, there's no shame in saying "sorry everyone, we got it wrong"- in fact everybody would love you for it - love you for showing that you are not just a faceless corporation that doesn't give a damn, but in reality a bunch of humans that care about & listen to their supporters. Get back to your roots & back to what made FF great.
