How can I make the drop-down toolbar menu show only the most visited websites and not include a website merely because it is bookmarked?

This morning I found that my Firefox toolbar drop-down list of what I thought was my most-visited websites contained other websites that are not "most visited".

These other websites turned out to be websites I had bookmarked and was reviewing (visiting) yesterday. However, these particular bookmarked websites are certainly not "most-visited". These bookmarked websites ended up replacing true most-visited websites in this list.

Previously, I experienced that my most-visited list was simply that, with the website visited the most (over a number of days (?)) at the top followed by the second-most-visited website, etc. Since this list only appears to allow 10 entries, that worked for me. Thus Google search was at the top of the list as I visit it multiple times/day.

Now it appears that if I visit a bookmarked website a small number of times in a day it ends up in this list bumping down true most-visited websites .. until the most-visited websites fall out of this 10-entry list -- indeed, Google search no longer even appeared in the list this morning!

How can I make this list a true most-visited list again?

When I put my cursor on the little down-caret symbol in the toolbar that displays this list it reads "show history". If there's a settings entry for this function I can't find it. I can't even find a setting that controls the number of days to set to analyze if a website is most used or not.

I appreciate whatever help you can give me.

Thanks,

Chip

What shows in the list is determined by 'frecency' bonus count that are added by using (visiting) specific links.

See the places.frecency.*Bonus prefs on the about:config page. You can reset the history count for specific pages. You can exclude the bookmarks in Options/Preferences from showing as a suggestion.

Hi cor-el,

Thank you for responding to my request for help.

I, however, am a bit confused as to what to do.

Regarding the Options/Preferences, I brought up a Firefox browser, opened the drop-down menu at the far right, and clicked on "Options" .. but I scrolled all of the categories (General, Home, Search, etc.) and no topic called "Preferences" appeared.

regarding the "places.frecency.*Bonus .. I brought up a Firefox browser, typed "about:config" in the URL and pressed enter and it gave me an alphabetized list, so I scrolled down to the "places.frecency area, I found 13 entries that ended in the word "Bonus", but there's not enough description in their "Preference Names" for me to make heads or tails of which ones I'm supposed to do something with and what to actually do for me to know what to do here.

I'm not technically inclined or savvy to figure it out.
