FF Taskbar icon is blank, but FF works OK
For maybe a couple of weeks now, the FF icon on the Taskbar has been most of the time blank white. The desktop icon is fine, and everything else works OK. Occasionally, but not always, if I right-click the taskbar icon and select Delete, the icon is not deleted, but suddenly the FF icon is there. Other times the icon is deleted.
If I then right click the desktop icon and select Pin To Taskbar, it appears on the taskbar but with a blank icon.
I'm baffled.

Hi bxcfilm,
The only other possible solutions that I can think of are:
A) Get the Thumbnail & Icon Rebuilder tool from here:
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/icon-cache-rebuilder-for-windows-10
This will allow you to target only the icon cache and clear out any possible corruption.
B) Run Disk Cleanup and be sure to check the Thumbnails tickbox.
This will purge all of your icons and thumbnails from their caches. If you have a lot of photos, videos, etc. they will rebuild when you view them and it could take some time.
Either way, I would Unpin the icon from the taskbar and delete any desktop shortcut to Firefox beforehand.
The Rebuilder tool will offer to reboot your computer when it's done. Allow it to.
And you should reboot your computer after running Disk Cleanup if you choose that option.

Hi bxcfilm,
I would try this: Right click on the taskbar icon and select Unpin from taskbar. Restart your computer. This should refresh your icons. After it boots up Open Start menu Right click on Firefox and select Pin to taskbar.
I hope this helps.
"Right click on the taskbar icon and select Unpin from taskbar."
I did that, but instead of removing the icon from the taskbar, it simply put in the correct icon. Even stranger, when I right clicked on the icon again, the menu offered to pin the icon to the taskbar (even though it was already pinned).
See the picture.
After posting this reply, I will do the rest of your suggestion.
"Restart your computer. This should refresh your icons. After it boots up Open Start menu Right click on Firefox and select Pin to taskbar."
I restarted the PC and open the Start menu. Right-clickjing the FF icon offers "Pin to Start", not "Pin to Taskbar."
I right-clicked the desktop icon and selected Pin to Taskbar, and it put another blank white icon there, instead of the correct one.
Hi bxcfilm,
When you Unpinned the icon and then clicked again, offering to Pin To Taskbar again meant that the icon was gone - at least as far as the system is concerned.
In the Start menu, right click on Firefox and then hover your cursor over where it says More. There you will see Pin To Taskbar.
That gave the same result - a blank icon.

Well, I did A but not B yesterday. No change.
But later in the day, the correct icon returned, just like that!
Thanks for your help.
Hi bxcfilm,
