How to stop firefox window from being always on top on Linux Mint 19.2

Lately firefox has gotten the habit of being always on top. By this I mean I can't bring other windows to the front unless I either minimise it or drag it to the external monitor. Is there a way to stop this behaviour? I did not install the always on top extention so that's not my prob. This seems to have happened after some recent updates as far as I'm aware. Resizing firefox makes no difference as it still stays in front of other windows.

Hi

Which desktop environment are you using? Have you changed the window manager from the default (if yes, what to)?

This information will help us to hopefully find a solution for you.

I have an "Always on Top" item in the system menu (Alt+Space), so you can check that.

Hi. Im' on Linux Mint 19.2 at the moment. I've actually found my solution. I had to go into the about:config page and search "ontop" minus the quotes of course. Once found I set it to false and restarted firefox. Problem solved in my instance

Never saw that until now. I managed via the about config page. Maybe that would've done the same job?

Firefox from the Mozilla server doesn't have such an 'ontop' pref by default, so this must be something that Ubuntu adds to its special branded version offered via its repositories.

That's possible, it may well be a linux specific update bug? Haven't booted back to Windows for around 3 months. Suppose I should to get the updates ;) Well, the default for the setting appears to have been nothing, i.e. no setting. When I changed that to false and restarted the browser my prob was fixed. Maybe if anyone coming from Linux experiences the same this might help?
