After updating tо Firefox 81.0 the browser stopped saving files and pages. For example, when I click file > save, nothing happens, the files also are not saved when using "save link as" or clicking on a link. The browser seems to perform all other functions flawlessly. If anyone knows what the problem is, pls share any relevant experience.

You can possibly check the Browser Console for possible related messages.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you, the file saving now works fine, I have just reinstalled Firefox. I have also installed a couple of app on my mac like MemoryClean2 (this particular one does not show up Applications). I guess one of them hijacked Firefox as it has its home page set to SearchMarquis.com. See the screenshots. The things are more less like true to this description (for Firefox) https://macsecurity.net/view/289-search-marquis-com. Manual resetting only work for current session. I guess I need to use AV, which one would you recommend? Is there a specific tool for Mozilla on Mac?
