I am unable to type anything into the location bar or the google search box. Running Firefox 4.0.1 on my Mac, running OSX.6.7. Is this some setting I've somehow buggered up??

After updating to Firefox 4.0.1, I noticed a couple things: 1)sometimes there is a ghost image of the page name showing at the top center of the Firefox header and 2) i am unable to type into the location box of the toolbar or into the google search box in the toolbar. There is another "web search" box which I am able to type into on Firefox, but it's the only one I can actually type into.

Try to open a new window to see if that works. If that works then close the window that gives problems.

You can also try to clear the cache.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

It happens with every window, every time, every day. Opening a new window doesn't help.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Actually, i did a restart in safe mode and disabled everything. Started up again and it seemed fine but when I tried to navigate, the entire screen was unresponsive. So I uninstalled Firefox and will shut down my computer next. Then restart and reinstall and see what happens.

At this point, I have uninstalled Firefox numerous times and deleted it from my computer. I have also reinstalled it at least three times and while, initially, it appears fine, when I try to navigate, the screen goes unresponsive and the entire program freezes. To close Firefox I must do a "Force Quit". Welcome any input.
