It is still possible to have multiple tabs open. By default these may now have moved higher up the screen. There is also the option to use what was the panorama feature now called tabs groups. I am using an XP and firefox 4 and later. I still have multiple URLs in separate tabs lined up across the top of the screen, and can have teem above or below the bookmarks (favourites) toolbar.
