Bing will not work as home page. Google does. Bing not. Why?
I want Bing as my home page, but when I set it, it won't load. I get a "Problem loading page" message (See details below). If I type in https://www.google.com/ in the exact same tab, google works. I've done the basics of changing the default of course and the more advanced of changing the default under "about". I've set the firewall to allow firefox.exe. I've run add on cleaners. No change.
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Please ensure that you have set the homepage to http://www.bing.com/ and not a link from a search result. I know that this may sound obvious to some, but I have seen it done before.
Also, please ensure that you do not have any add-ons installed that will prevent you from making changes to your homepage.
Just a question: Are you able to load the link that I have provided above?
Done. Tried it many different ways. Note: I have a CS degree, but still make stupid mistakes. Don't think so this time.
Don't know yet. I have 5 machines and bing works on all but 1. That 1 has XP pro instead of XP home.
Tried it on the problem computer and got the same error. Also tried typing in various ways: www.bing.com, http://www.bing.com/, https://www.bing.com/ and all get the same error message as your link:

Please try the following:
- Go to the Firefox Options
- Select the Advanced tab
- Select the Network tab
- Click the Configure how Firefox connects to the internet button
- Select Use system proxy settings and if this does not fix the issue, select the Auto-detect option
Using the system setting usually doesn't work well on Windows XP and best is to use the no proxy connection setting in Windows XP.
It was on "Use..." tried "Auto..." no effect. I have run cleaners of all sorts and found nothing (I've used anti virus software from the day it was invented). This also is an issue with Chrome and IE. I have a sneaking suspicion that google did something because after I started using chrome / google search together, this issue popped up and I've never found a cure on all machines. I've uninstalled, re-installed, ripped out references in regedit, etc. Seems like it's been hard coded in the bios...
I used to get lots of those Connection reset errors, a change of anti virus program fixed my issue.
To test if the AV is the issue you can of course try Windows in Safe Mode with networking.
