Does Firefox come with a built-in capability to download YouTube videos to my hard drive or do I have to add a plug-in to do this?

I read a recent review of Firefox comparing it to Explorer and Chrome that led me to believe that Firefox has some built in application or other capability that lets users download YouTube videos to their hard drives to view at a later date. Did I misunderstand the article? If not, could you tell me how I can get to this feature? Conversely, if I have to download some plug-in or extension for Firefox to download the videos could you let me know what the best approach is for that?

I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance.

Hello wbrook47--

I believe there are add-ons that will do this:

You can search in your add-ons manager for "youtube."

I found these:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1-click-youtube-video-downl/

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-video-and-audio-dow/

Hope that helps.

Are you aware that YouTube terms of service prohibit saving videos?

Everyone does anyway. These are add-on found through an Mozilla Firefox add-on search. And if you're going to say YouTube you might well just say Google. So why this?

https://www.google.com/search?q=download+youtube+video

[edit] In addition, I never signed any terms of service with Google or YouTube. Nor will I take their cookies. Google was made for the web, not the web for Google.

@wbrook47--seriously, those plugins are more hassle then they're worth (I just tried one...inspired by the-edmeister). It is easier just searching for "YouTube to mp4 online converter" until you find an good one...one that doesn't make you register, download a secondary program etc. I just found one that converted the Rolling Stones "Doom and Gloom" YouTube to mp4 and even guided me past the nag screen. That was easier than the plugins I found.

Mozilla just awarded me a "SUMO Badge" today, I guess for making such a nuisance of my self trying to get to the bottom of the FF 29 bugs. So I am giving Mozilla my "Axis Award"
