When I type an address into the location bar autocomplete only works if I already entered that address manually before. But if I visited that page following a link before it won't offer to complete it. In options autocomplete is set to use history and bookmarks

No, it's the same in safe mode. Still only offers typed in addresses for autocomplete.

You can check the browser.urlbar preferences on the about:config page and reset user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Everything is set to default

could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

It's too long to post here, I had to remove the printer information part

you could paste it into a service like http://pastebin.mozilla.org/ then and provide a link to the log here...

I assume the problem is not with the printers, so the above should be sufficient.

due to a few things (user.js file, outdated browser.history prefs, customizations to network./security. preferences), i'd probably create a new profile and start fresh: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
