Firefox 37.0.2 crashes once almost every hour on Windows 8.1, and there seems to be no fix in sight.

Please fix. I have now stopped using Firefox as my default browser. If there's no fix, I'm uninstalling it altogether.

Thank you for the crash report IDs. They seem to involve the Norton Identity Safe extension, which then calls Norton Confidential, which tries to display a window but crashes. If I'm reading them correctly.

Could you try running for a day with Norton Identify Safe disabled? You can do that on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then find Norton on the right side.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While in Safe Mode;

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted

Copy the last 5-7 Recent File Names in the folder. Post the information in the reply box below.

Thanks for the reply, Fred!

Whenever Firefox crashes, it asks if I'd like to send a crash report, and I choose "Yes." So I don't feel like resending crash reports is the solution to this problem.

I can still launch and run Firefox after a crash, but the problem is the persistent, frequent crashes. Once in a month is acceptable, perhaps, but this is happening daily and I suspect mine is not an isolated case.

The crash reports go to the Mozilla servers for the programers, not us. If you post the last 7-10 report numbers, we can look them up and tell you what is going on.

I too, have this problem happens daily on win 8.1 and windows vista, firefox 37.0.2. It happens after I close using the white X in the little red block in upper right and it also happens after I click file, exit. I submit the crash reports and have voiced this problem with mozilla support in the recent past and so far have received no satisfactory solutions.

Hi marv6, recent versions of Firefox are monitoring the shutdown time and reporting "shutdown hang" as a new kind of crash. If you look at the reports (you can click the links on the about:crashes page to observe how they are described on the crash stats server) are they shutdown hang crashes, or something else?

Since the causes of crashes can be very individual, you might want to start a new thread on these:

https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems

Keep scrolling down past the suggested articles/threads if they do not sound directly on point.

Go ahead and include links to the most recent crash reports.

Hi Kenneth, Firefox shouldn't crash that often. If you are interested in help with your crashes, please check the last section of the support article "Firefox Crashes" for steps to get those crash report IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

These are the latest crash reports.

I hope something can be done to fix it. Otherwise, I'm moving on to Explorer or Google Chrome.

I disabled the Norton Identify Safe add-on yesterday and found Firefox to be much more stable. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

This solution did not help me because I do not use the Norton Identify Safe add-on.
