I switched my home page to Yahoo, now every time I open a new tab it opens Yahoo. I want the new tab to go to the menu of my most visited places.

I clicked on an option to make Yahoo the page that opens when I open Firefox. But now, whenever I click for a new tab, it just reopens Yahoo! I used to get a menu of my most visited sites, and I want that restored. Help!

Hi bartstewart1, do you use any add-ons that let you change the new tab page? Some examples include:

  • Tab Mix Plus
  • Classic Theme Restorer
  • New Tab Homepage
  • New Tab Override
  • Custom New Tab

Generally speaking, extensions that have configuration options like what to show on the new tab page can be updated back to about:newtab on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Look for an "Options" button for any extension you think might be a factor.

If you're not sure what your extensions do, you can post a list of them here for comment.

Probably the easiest way is to open the troubleshooting information page. Either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

The scroll down to Extensions and just below that heading, select and copy the table, then paste that into a reply. It will look a bit messy, but we're used to it.

Went to the Add-Ons page as described above. Loaded something called New Tab Tools. It only appears once when you click the New Tab button. After that I am right back to Yahoo appearing every time I click for a New Tab. Even if I close the New Tab Tools menu and try to reopen it, all I get is Yahoo.

Why did you load something called New Tab Tools? I don't think that is going to help in this situation.

On the Add-ons page, please go to the Extensions section using the list down the left side of the page and see what is going on there. Or paste a list here using the method I described before.
