I never get the OTP code on my phone and never get to the screen to enter the OTP code. I get stuck on the oops page, your username or password is incorrect

How do you login with Safari or Chrome? What happens if you disable the 2-Factor Authentication? Are you able to login?

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What are the exact error message(s) ?

Are you using the Mac beta version?

Good morning Fred. I am using Mojave version 10.14.5. I have been using Safari and Google as the search engine without any issues. I can always sign in to Amazon using these products successfully. I recently switched to Firefox with the Duckduckgo search engine because I am tired of Google tracking me. I have the latest release of both offerings. That combination seems to work for everything but signing in to my Amazon account. When I use Firefox, it takes me to the Amazon sign in screen. My username and password are stored, so when I get to the login page, these values are automatically autofilled (and are valid). when the Amazon log in screen is autofilled, it asks to send an OTP code. I click OK and get a message that says Opps, something went wrong. Your username and /or password is invalid.

I clean out all history in Firefox, deleted my saved login and password for the Amazon site and tried it again. It allowed me to go to the login screen, I manually entered my username and password, saved them and clicked on send the OTP. I got the same error again. OOPs, something went wrong, invalid username and password. Tried multiple times over multiple days. Called Amazon support who concludes that since I can sign on with Safari and Google, then it must be a Firefox issue. I have searched the web and have not been able to find a solution. I would appreciate any help you might offer. Thank you.

It sounds like a content blocking issue. Did you set your Browser Privacy to Strict? If so, what happens if you use Standard?

Thank you for your reply. My browser privacy is set to standard.

This is so strange. I replaced the Duckduckgo search engine with Bing and still was unable to log in using Firefox. Amazon gives me the Invalid username or ID message. If I continue to try it, it continues to give me the same error message. I feel like I am in a captcha time warp.

How are you generating this OTP code?

The password should be OK if you get to the screen to enter the OTP code as this is an additional layer. OTP codes are usually time dependent and only valid for a short time like 30 seconds.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.

I just downloaded chrome and tried to login to Amazon. That gave me the same error as firefox. I have recently downloaded firefox in an effort to get off google, Maybe something went wrong with the download of Firefox and Chrome. Never had difficulty downloading browsers before? Neither of them work?

I went to Amazon and disabled two factor authentication for my phone. I then tried to log in using Firefox and Amazon sent a code to my email. I entered the code and was able to log in. Looks like it is an Amazon problem with phone notification. My sincere thanks to all of you who took the time to resolve this for me. I am going to contact Amazon support to try to find out why their two factor phone authorization will not work. Thanks again to everyone.

The problem was solved. It was caused by Amazon and their two step verification process. For some reason, they were unable to tell me that they could not send the OTP to my phone as listed on their verification process. Instead, they would give me a message indicating that my username and/or password were incorrect. I disabled the two step verification on Amazon, the login worked because they sent the OTP code to my email instead of my phone, and reported the problem to them.

I have recently migrated to Firefox from Chrome and can login fine to Amazon.co.uk on Chrome. On Amazon it asks me to enter password and then OTP every time even though I have set it to trust this browser. Password is remembered and autofills.

I have checked settings and content blocking is turned off for Amazon, cookies are allowed and all settings are set to allow for Amazon. Still requires OTP every time.

Advice appreciated.

Thanks,
