Podcasts from Vox news won't play at all. No problem with MS Edge. This is not a new problem.

Again and again I see 'This page is slowing your browser'. Then I have to close the page.

Generally, during the last month or so my laptop works more slowly under Firefox.

Did you try Firefox in Safe Mode? The site works for me. see screenshot
