Hi,

I'm running Thunderbird on iMac.

I've been quite meticulously color-coding a large number of my folder icons (under "properties" for each) over the past couple of years, but now all my icons have gone back to that default yellow.

I've tried running in troubleshoot mode, but that makes no difference. So now I've updated to 128.5.2esr Nebula, which purports to be the newest. Still, nothing has changed.

Is there any way I can restore those colors? I could, of course, re-assign them by hand, but it would be a major task offering no guarantee that the icons won't simply switch back to default all over again.

Holà, the individual colours selected by the user for generic folders are stored in the folderTree.json file. If you have a recent backup of your Thunderbird profile folder you can replace your actual folderTree.json file with the one from the last backup.

Hi Mapenzi,

OK, I tried pulling up older versions of folderTree.json, but that didn't help.

Viewing folderTree.json inside a text editor, I can easily see those custom colors in there. They're given in hex, preceded by #. So for some reason, even though they're in that file, my Thunderbird is ignoring them.

But... when I re-color a folder interactively, in the normal fashion, that works as usual. Even when I shut down Thunderbird and fire it back up again.

So the mystery persists. But thanks for your perfectly logical suggestion!
