I updated to ff4, got to the point where ff was checking add-ons and that task never finished, waited over 5 minutes. Killed that task, tried to start ff, computer hangs, shows that ff is consuming about 50% of process time... that was let run for about 2 or 3 minutes. Reinstalled ff4, same problem. Went back to ff3.16 everything working OK....Help please!!

Make sure that you have updated all drivers like the graphics display card driver and the mouse driver to the latest versions.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
Check if there is an update available for your graphics display card driver.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
