Thunderbird currently installed on OS-X I think Snow Leopard. Lots of email and folders. Need to move them all to Thunderbird on MInt Linux 18 with cinnamon. Is there a way in export them in mass and import them into Thunderbird on the linux box? Apple does things so differently this has proven to be difficult. I tried moving the entire profile then going through it to change all the path names. I am missing something as I can see the address book but not the email.

Well I have managed it between Windows and Linux where there are indeed multiple differences in pathnames.

I'd be surprised that you'd need to alter pathnames to message stores as these are normally inside the profile itself and so have relative pathnames. Maybe you have changed too much?
