How do I activate the download side bar that allows me to monitor downloads?
In past Firefox editions there was a side bar on the left side of the screen that show your downloads and how they were progressing. It is no longer there. How do I activate it?

Someone created a new add-on for this. I haven't tried it myself:

I don't recall there being a Downloads sidebar, but I could be wrong. Are you sure it wasn't an add-on? We'll need some more info about your Firefox setup. Go to Help > Troubleshooting Information then click Copy text to Clipboard. Open a reply to this post, and go to Edit > Paste to paste the info from your Troubleshooting Information page.
