Thunderbird version 91
Hi, This week my Thunderbird email program was updated from 78 to version 91 and as soon as that happened all my incoming emails arrived in the inbox without being highlighted to indicate that they are unread. Do you know if this is an actual intended feature of the new 91 version? I was unable to find a setting that would trigger my email to arrive highlighted until after I read it so I uninstalled Thunderbird 91 and reinstalled version 78. That immediately solved the problem, now all the emails are once again highlighted when they arrive and they stay highlighted until after I've read them. Unfortunately, I can no longer allow Thunderbird 78 to be updated or I'll lose the highlighting feature but at the same time I'm also not getting security updates. Is there a setting in the 91 version that will cause my incoming email to arrive highlighted? Highlighting new emails is a great way to differentiate them from emails which have already been opened and read and I sure hope this feature is not something that Thunderbird programmers have decided to stop offering. I'd appreciate as much clarification about this issue as possible. Thank to those willing to help me.

The Thunderbird team are not offering existing users updates at this time. However all sorts of third party helper applications force updates before they are due. Based on your next comment I am guessing in your case bitdefender.

I have seen references in the forum to bitdefender causing such and issue.

No it is not.

I guess you know why you could find nothing now. Thunderbird does not ever mark new unread mail as read unless it is to match the status of that mail on the mail server.
so I uninstalled Thunderbird 91 and reinstalled version 78.
Backward comparability of profile data is no longer guaranteed. Doing what you have just done is asking for data loss as the entire storage format of some parts of your profile have been ungraded irrevocably by the update..
I suggest you ask bit defender how to stop their product hacking Thunderbird to create this issue.
If I sound like I am sick of anti virus products messing up, you would be correct. As a group they and VPN's probably cause more posts in this forum than any other two things combined.
I got a notification from my Kaspersky Internet Security software that there was an update of Thunderbird from 78.13.0 (my current version) to 91.0.1.
As I always update my Firefox and Thunderbird from the software telling me about an update I did not update it from Kaspersky.
I always check the release notes and when I did that it said that Thunderbird 91 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 78 or earlier. A future release will provide updates from earlier versions.
So I did not do anything and will wait for an update directly through Thunderbird.
Just wanted to let others know about the suggestion from Kaspersky Internet Security to prevent any issues.
