I don't think Firefox send out Security Alert. That could be a pop-up Scam.

On the safe side, you can use the following programs to scan your PC. I suggest you use them all since each one catches different kinds of viruses/spywares. After the scanning, you can delete them if you want to:

1. http://www.avg.com/us-en/homepage

2. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

3. http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

You may be visiting a web site that has been infected or is hosting malware.
You should never respond unrequested pop-ups that try to persuade you to download and install software.
Doing that is the way to get malware because no decent company would use such methods to inform you about that.
You only saw an animation and not a real scan.
