My laptop has been running fine but then I hit a problem in that my USB2 ports would not work; my USB3 ports did work but not the 2.

I tied all this back to 16 June when I installed the latest Microsoft updates and Intel Graphics update. At this time I also updated Firefox to the latest version.

I couldn't resolve the USB2 issue so did a system restore back to 12 June and everything worked fine. I put the USB2 problem down to the Intel update and reloaded all the Microsoft patches and everything worked fine. I then updated Firefox and on restart my USB2 ports do not work. A few minutes ago I totally uninstalled Firefox, rebooted the laptop and the USB ports work fine again.

I imagine that the latest Firefox is creating a conflict somewhere but goodness where so I was wondering if anyone might be able to help.

My system is running Windows 8.1 64bit and I have Kaspersky Internet Security loaded. As I mentioned, everything was fine until I updated Firefox with the latest patch. With no Firefox I have now had to default to Windows 11.

Thanks.

Steve

Thank you for the suggestions - tried all that and v30 still knocks out my USB2 ports.

I've read on the Internet about other users losing their touchpad mouse once v30 was installed so I imagine that somehow Firefox is conflicting in some way with particular laptops; mine being one of them.

In the end I've found a link that lets me install v29.0.1 and after disabling automatic updates, everything is fine again. I think I'll try an update again once we get around to v32 but in the meantime, I'm happy to stay with v29.0.1.

USB ports should not be affected by a Firefox update. If there are issues with the preferences or drivers you can Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL or try to see if it will work in a new Firefox profile: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
