I tried updating Java 7 to Java 8 due to the security block that Firefox did on Java 7's plugin- however, even after I removed libnpjp2.so(as root) in order to update the plugin and make a new hard link to the Java 8's libnpjp2.so, it still tells me that I am using a insercure version of Java and even if I click "Allow and Remember" or "Allow Now" the Java applet shows me nothing but a plain white area where the applet was,( refer to attachments). I have not tried reinstalling Java as I do not know how to do so and I do not think it'd help in this case. I aslo tried using IcedTea to run Java applets. My Java is installed though a PPA,as appearently "default-jre" is up to date. Java programs that are downloaded (e.g. Minecraft) still work. Is this an error on Firefox's side,or shall I move this to Ubuntu Forums? System: 32 bit with Firefox 39 on Ubuntu 12.04

Do you see Java in Add-on Manager - Plugins? If so, which version?

more options

Yes,if you're relating to About:addons.11.45.2.

11.45.2 is vulnerable, and I believe Firefox blocks it. Ubuntu are not offering the latest version (yet). You do need v11.51 (aka Java 8u51). It can be downloaded from here. http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp

For help on installing please refer to the Ubuntu forums.

Sorry, but I did explain that I did try to update, and this happened due to the problem as said in the OP. I installed Java 8 and enabled Java in browser though Java 8's Control Panel, and when I tried using an Java applet, Firefox did not show the applets.

You appear to have installed Java 8u45, which is outdated and vulnerable. Why it's still being offered from the Ubuntu repository I don't know. You'd need to ask this in a Ubuntu forum. What you need is Java 8u51.
