Recently, jn order to make a few bucks and/or get amazon gift cards, I signed up to take paid surveys. I researched most of them first and picked what looked legitimate. My daughter tells me they'll hack me or compile info in order to steal my identity. I am disabled, partially, and homebound, and just wanted to contribute to the family income Should I unsubscribe from these sites? I have good antivirus software, so as far as I know, didn't catch anything, but now she's got me worried and after reading the info on that noscript addon this am, I am really concerned, because you do end up at third party sites alot. Thank you for any help and opinions you can offer, E.

Hi

Thank you for your question. I do not believe it is directly to do with Firefox for Android, but I will do my best to help.

There are legitimate sites that do a legitimate activity of collecting survey information to sell to brands so that they can design and provide goods and services that people want. Not my place to comment on the sites that you are using, but have you received any payments or gifts from them?

These sites may very well have lots of advertising, some of it malicious and some of it tracking you on the web. To turn on the tracking protection in Firefox for Android, I recommend you have a read of this article.

In respect of the malicious adverts, you may want to block them by using an ad-block add-on such as uBlock Origin (others do exist). A guide to searching and installing add-ons can be found here.

I hope this helps, but if not please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.

Hey thank you for answering so promptly! I'd like to know how to enable firefox for android tracking protection without having to use private mode all the time? I like to keep my history and recent tabs. I sm about to look at ublock, I take it it's in firefox add-ons? I used adblock once, but there were just all kinds of probs with FF on the tablet I had then,so I had to take it off and to tell the truth, forgot. Lol, brainless sometimes.! Thanks again, Happy Holydays and Merry Christmas to you and yours, E

Hi

Yes, it is possible to turn on tracking protection in Firefox for Android without starting a Private Browsing session.

  1. In the address bar in Firefox for Android, type in about:config.
  2. Search for an entry called privacy.trackingprotection.enabled. It should be labelled false.
  3. Tap it and select the Toggle button to change it to true.
  4. Exit out and resume browsing

Now when you use Firefox for Android, you will not need to open a Private Browsing session to make use of tracking protection.

To install the uBlock Origin add-on in Firefox for Android;

  1. Tap the menu button (either below the screen on some devices or at the top-right corner of the browser)
  2. Tap the Tools menu item (you may need to tap More first) .
  3. Tap the Add-ons menu item.
  4. Tap Browse all Firefox Add-ons
  5. Use the search box to find uBlock Origin.

(I have just done this myself and it was at the top of the list of results of the search.)

I will not be around next week, but if you need any further guidance, please ask and someone will help. Best wishes for the festive season.
