Does anyone here know where on my computer my Firefox logins/passwords are stored? What is the file extension and name? When I login via my Master password it say the following: "Logins for the following sites are stored on your computer" However I cannot find where the above information is located on my computer.

The logins.json file is in your profile folder, which is the folder that holds your Firefox settings files, history, most add-ons, etc. See: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

more options

Note that Firefox uses the key3.db file to store the encryption key to encrypt and decrypt the passwords stored in logins.json.

Thank you Jscher2000, getting closer to finding a solution. One question before I Refresh Firefox... a few days ago a tech support person was fixing my Windows button and other which stopped working on my computer. She deleted my Firefox and all my bookmarks/logins/passwords were replaced with generic info. I see the key and json files that contain my data, however, the files are today's date (my data is in the files prior to Sunday when she made a mess of my computer). Does that mean a refresh will not be able to retrieve the files/data she deleted a few days ago? I've since been using Firefox to find a solution. Does this mean I've lost all my prior logins/passwords/bookmarks?

more options

Thanks also cor-el... found the 2 files and still not sure if a refresh will retrieve my prior data from a few days ago. Pls see my query above.

Okay, hold on, do NOT do a Refresh.

Is there anything in the Windows Recycle bin related to Mozilla or Firefox, or matching the funny naming pattern of a Firefox profile folder (semi-random, then a dot, then a word such as default)? Please check ASAP in case that is on a cycle to get flushed.

Try a global search of the C drive for bookmarkbackups to see whether that turns up any other profile folders on the drive. You probably need to turn on viewing of hidden files and folders to uncover anything: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files

ok holding on, thx. Nothing in Recycle bin (sadly). Will try the global search on C drive. If not a hidden file or the like, I gather a Refresh won't retrieve the prior data?

more options

bookmarkbackups search found one file from today and one from Sep-2015. Looks like the latter is my only option? Which means almost 6 months of lost data.

more options

Problem is she created a new MS account which I'm guessing overwrote all my Firefox bookmarkbackups etc. She did it so fast before I could disconnect the remote assistance. Not a happy camper.

Does the bookmarkbackups folder contain any compressed .jsonlz4 bookmarks backups?

Is that other bookmarkbackups folder located in a Firefox profile folder and does this folder contain the logins.json and key3.db files?

Wot cor-el změnjeny

Just searched and yes, approx 60 files with that extension. The older logins.json and key3db files are in a separate folder I had named Firefox_old_backup. Thx for the links, will have a look now.

more options

The other bookmarkbackups folder does not contain logins.json or key3.db files, and is only one extensions.json file.

more options

ran a separate c: drive search for logins.json and there is one for Sep-2015, and same re key3.db in Sep-2015. However neither are in a Profile folder.

Was the other Windows user profile removed or can you still see it? I think a global search should be able to find files in there, assuming your new user has administrator privileges.

It could be that there's been too much activity, but you could try a tool like Recuva if the old Windows user profile is completely gone. It will scour for erased files and show you what it finds:

Thanks I'll take a look. Have 2 windows profiles/accounts (one was free with my new computer). She deleted my main/prior windows user profile, then recreated it and renamed the file, so I still have two profiles/accts. Both have administrator privileges. Will have a look but I think when she realized what she had done without giving me a chance to back up my firefox, she renamed the new profile. It was very confusing re what she was trying to do. Then the called dropped after over an hour on the phone/remote and she never called back. It was then that she told me she'd never done this troubleshooting before.... eesh. A little too late.

New thought -- check out this tool: http://nicbedford.co.uk/software/systemrestoreexplorer/

If there is a recovery point of your deleted Windows user profile still on the drive, you may be able to extract out the Profiles folder.

Thanks will do re new thought.

Just finished searching h/d and found only one windows user profile dated sep-2015, yet I have 2 separate accounts that I can log into to check mail etc in the cloud. hmmm

Still reading all the links you both sent, thx.

While here... do you know if Firefox 50.0 is fully compatible with Norton Identity Safe and toolbar, or should I wait until upgrading from Firefox ver 44.0.2? Searched online and can't find an answer.

Firefox 50.0? If you meant Firefox 45, I would expect Norton extensions to have the same limitations as in Firefox 44. I tried to search the Norton community site and I can't find any updated information there.
