Have researched how to add yahoo toolbar to Firefox 48 but have had no success. Tried what was suggested for 44 but nothing is working. Yahoo toolbar makes navigating different sites so much easier. Need suggestion on how to load Yahoo toolbar with add ons for youtube, amazon, ebay, etc..

Okay, you need to install the July 26th version, you have the July 29th version. Back on the Add-ons site, on the versions page, it's the second one down.

Version 3.2.18.blahblah

Yahoo has changed its toolbar pretty significantly:

On August 1, 2016 we will simplify the Firefox Yahoo Toolbar and upgrade your browser to the New Tab by Yahoo extension experience. This extension provides a static version of Yahoo Toolbar and customizes your new tab page with Flickr photos and quick access to your top sites. Please note, you will no longer be able to modify your toolbar layout.

To get the pre-August 1 bar back, here's what I suggest:

First, remove the two Yahoo add-ons you have now from the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side find and remove these:

  • Search and New Tab by Yahoo 1.0.6
  • Yahoo! Toolbar 1.4.0.20070112 -- toward the bottom on the grayed area

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled/removed extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Next step: Instally the July 26th version of the toolbar from the following page:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar-and-new-tab/versions/

Before restarting Firefox, go back to the Add-ons page, click the More link under the Yahoo Toolbar extension, and turn off automatic updating. (In case you closed the page...)

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Find Yahoo toolbar on the right side and click the tiny More link under the title, then on that page, find the row for Automatic Updates and set it to Off.

Then you can use the restart link for the toolbar to complete the installation.

jscher2000 your suggestions did get the yahoo toolbar back (Thank You). However, toolbar does not give me the ability to add new icons such as amazon, ebay, facebook. All the current toolbar is showing is mail, news, sports, finance, flickr and tumblr. Any further suggestions?

My experiments with the bar the other day were limited, but is Facebook at least listed on the page? (see attached edit screen)

My toolbar doesn't even show the + icon or the setting icon. That is why I can't do anything with the toolbar. I appreciate your suggestions. Sure is frustrating when the toolbar continues to be an issue with Windows 10.

Hi AlpineTX, could you double-check which version you ended up with? On the Add-ons page, Extensions list, click the More link under Yahoo Toolbar. The old-style versions start with 3.2 and the new style versions start with 5.0.

If necessary, disable automatic updates and go back and install the July 26th version again.

Hi jscher2000, Looks like I have 5.0.2 and I have the automatic updates disabled.

jscher200, Yippeee! just removed 5.0.2 and installed the july toolbar and it is showing all ICONS. Thank you so much for your assistance!

Good news. Make sure to turn off auto-updating for that July 26th toolbar or you may wake up to a surprise.

The yahoo toolbar will not download in Firefox/Mozilla even when I do as you said above.

Do you get a specific error message when you try to install it?

sithy,

Installed fine for me just now in Firefox 48.0 - I took a look at the install.rdf file and found the MaxVersion set for 15.0a1. That install.rdf hasn't been updated since early 2012 when Firefox 15 was being developed (IMO, a sloppy programmer updating that extension for that many years); shouldn't be a problem normally (Firefox 10.0 was an "epoch event" of sorts with "extensions"), but under certain circumstances it could prevent a newer version from being allowed to install that extension - although I would expect it to throw an error message for the user to see.
