Can Thunderbird translate English to Ukrainian and from Ukrainian to English? If so, how do I do so please?

I have started to correspond with someone from Ukraine. He does not speak English but uses a translator. I do not speak Ukrainian, so need to be able to write in English, then transpose to Ukrainian to send to him. I am 65, and feel I may not be able to learn Ukrainian at this stage in my life, but would really like the companionship of my new friend who is of the same age as myself. I would also like to receive emails from him in his own language and be able to transpose/translate his mail in to English. Is this possible working within Thunderbird? Do I need to look for a specific program, and then attach the translated email to a Thunderbird document? I am, as stated, a little out of my league with technology, but am willing to try. I hope someone can help me.

Google Translate is very good, but there is no integration in Thunderbird. I don't know of any addon to help with this, but it's not too hard to copy your text to the Google Translate webpage, translate it there and copy back to email.
