I figured a way out of the pinned screen fiasco, although I had to reset to factory defaults​ and reboot the tablet. I was concerned but that fixed a lot of bugs! Who would-a thunk it?

I don't know what button you used, do you mean a pin on the 'top websites' tab ? In that case: touch and hold with 1 finger to summon a popup option to pin/unpin.
