When I click on the add-ons button, to view extensions, plug-ins, etc., nothing happens; the Add-0ns Manager tab/page doesn't open.

However, when I open a new tab and then type "about:addons" in the address bar, the Add-Ons Manager does open and appear in a new tab, but if I then close it again and try to reopen it using the "button", it won't reopen. I should add that if I close Firefox entirely and then reopen the browser, the functionality of the add-ons button is restored for a certain amount of time, but eventually stops working again. I suppose I could live with typing "about:addons" every time, but it would be more convenient to be able to use the faster one click on the button method.

I read in one of the Help articles that doing a refresh/reset might solve this ...... except then I'd have to redo much of my customization of the browser. I'm familiar with replacing specific (or even all) files in the current Firefox Profile and Program Files folders with older versions, using File History and/or Shadow Explorer to access the older versions. Might there be a few relevant files I could replace with older versions to get back the add-on button functionality? Or any other possible solutions?

Thanks!

Did you verify that it was updated to work with FF57 before installing it?

WestEnd, thanks for the reply, but I'm not understanding where you're coming from because 1) I'm still using FF56 because I'm delaying the loss of certain extensions that will occur when I update to 57 and 2) the add-ons button, which is found in the Menu, is an integral component or feature of FF, not an extension that needs to be installed.

Or am I missing what you're saying?

I'm the original question poster. I just noticed, in my list of installed plug-ins, that both Shockwave Flash 27.0 and 28.0 are installed, which seems to indicate that when Flash was updated to 28 a few days ago, version 27 was not uninstalled. I wouldn't think that would cause the problem I'm experiencing with the non-functional Add-ons button, but maybe it is? If so, how can I uninstall Flash 27? There's no "remove" option for Flash 27, but there is a "Never Activate" option in a drop-down box.

I'm talking to myself a little bit here. I found instructions, I believe from outstanding contributor cor-el (from the planet Krypton?), on getting and running the Flash Uninstaller, which successfully removed all Flash versions. I then reinstalled the latest Flash 28, and now 28 is the only Flash showing in my installed FF plug-ins. For a little while, the add-ons button was working and opening the Add-ons Manager, but now it's stopped working again ...... so it seems the 2 Flash versions were NOT the cause of the problem.

As before, I can still get to the Add-ons Manager by typing "about:addons" in the address bar, but I'm still hoping to get the "button" functionality back, partly because little bugs like this make me wonder what other bugs may be lurking. So, any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks!
