My Hotmail acct won't stay signed in now in Firefox only. Close Firefox browswer and open again, I have to sign again. My system (Win7) is OK in IE & Chrome
Just recently this problem started occurring every time I close the Firefox browser. When I re-open the Firefox browser I then have to sign into Hotmail.com again, even though I had check before to save my sign in.
I am using Win 7 on my computer and tried this to see if it was a problem in IE or Chrome (though I don't use them on a daily basis) and in these (IE and Chrome) the Outlook/Hotmail account stayed signed in when I closed and re-opened their browsers.

A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.
You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:
- you can create an "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data: Exceptions
In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.
- do not clear the Cookies
- do not clear the Site Preferences
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history":
[X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" -> Settings - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-browsing-search-download-history-firefox
- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
- clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep
Let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies instead of using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies.
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"
You can create an "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies.
You can clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).
"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data
"Clear the Cache":
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear
If clearing cookies didn't help then It is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.
- rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Hello Mandy12,
In addition to the above - when you're on hotmail.com :
Click on the 'i' in a circle, next to the padlock at the left side of the address bar. That will take you to "Page Info". Then click on the little black arrow on the dropdown and then on "More Information". Click on the 'Permissions" tab and scroll down to "Set Cookies". Uncheck "Use Default" and check "Allow".
Then close and restart Firefox.
