How to re-download Emails using pop3
I have been using Thunderbird as my email client using pop3 with my Gmail. My computer crashed and I was able to reinstall Windows but it also wiped out all my software the data saved in AppDaa. My other data was intact. I was able to install Thunderbird and attach my Local Folders which were intact. But my Inbox and Sent is gone. And I had close to 2000 emails in the Inbox. Is there a way of getting back the Inbox? All the emails are still on Gmail as it does not remove when I pull them – is it possible to pull the Email of the last n months again so that they will be in my Inbox? In the future is there away to have the Inbox stored in Local Folders? Thanks in advance for your help

Did Windows create a folder called 'windows.old' ? It may have all your profile data in this that 'windows.old' folder in this location:
- C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\ Mail\gmail pop mail account name
If all info is there and you want to reinstate your old profile name...In 'Windows.old' copy the 'Thunderbird' folder. Exit thunderbird. Access: C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird Delete that default 'Thunderbird' folder and then paste in the copied 'Thunderbird' from 'windows.old' backup into the 'Roaming' folder.
If the above is not possible and you are using a new pop gmail account........ re: In the future is there away to have the Inbox stored in Local Folders? You can use 'Local Folders' mail account as a deferred account also known as a 'Global Inbox'. This means all incoming/outgoing mail etc is stored under Local Folders mail account, but you will not see the gmail pop account listed as separate account in Folder Pane. It will be lised in the Account Settings. See info here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Global_Inbox
re: Gmail and downloading pop emails. You can't download previously 'popped' messages unless you select the 'Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)' option in Gmail settings.
- Sign in to your Gmail webmail account via a browser
- Click the gear in the top right.
- Select Settings.
- Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
- Click Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded).
- Click Save changes.
After enabling this setting, Gmail clears the 'popped' status from all messages. Your mail client will then see the oldest 250 messages in your mailbox, assuming you're using POP normal mode, and can download them again as explained above.
re: 'recent' mode, which may provide more than 250 emails if you received more than that number in the last 30 days. Info copied from gmail. Recent mode shows your last 30 days of emails from Gmail. Step 1: Turn on Recent mode
- In your email client's POP settings page, find the "Email address" or "User name" field.
- Add recent: in front of your email address. For example, recent:example@gmail.com.
