I ended up using an online conversion tool to Idif. It worked fine but I'm wondering who else has all my contact information now.

Thunderbird's vcard support is rudimentary at best. It is also only supporting vcard to about two versions ago. Can you use ldif or csv instead?

Otherwise the cardbook add-on has some vcard import options I understand https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/cardbook/?src=ss
