My browser updated automatically and without warning today. It asked me to create a new user profile because it had none and once I open it my bookmarks are all gone. Only the fresh install bookmarks are present

I've tried restoring them from previous saved points but there are none either, the only one that remains is one containing the same fresh install bookmarks

If you go to the about:profiles page in Firefox, is there more than one profile listed there? If so, your old one is probably on that page and you should be able to change it back to the default.

If there's only one listed, go to the profile folder in the Windows file explorer and see if there's more than one folder listed in there. You can get to that folder by pressing the Windows key + R on your keyboard and inputting %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles into the window that appears.

If you have more than one profile folder there, Firefox might have lost track of where the folder is stored or what it's called. In that case, it can usually be restored by copying the contents of the lost profile folder into the new profile folder that Firefox made for you. Firefox will need to be closed to do that.

Before attempting that, I would recommend making a backup of any profile folders listed in the folder, just in case you copy the wrong one or something else goes wrong.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

You can also check the Windows recycle bin in case the lost profile ended up there.

You can look at a utility to browse System Restore points.

Thank you, everyone for your responses. This is the response that ended up resolving my problem and I wanna describe what I did in case that helps someone.

As mentioned, I went to the about:profiles page in Firefox but only found one profile, the new one with no information in it. So I had to look up in the profile folder where I found a default profile that wasn't listed in the about:profiles page, there I found the old backups of my bookmarks. However, instead of copying those files into the most recent profile, I restored the bookmarks with the library restore from a file option.

Hope this helps someone. Again, thanks everybody.
