Other Bookmarks Full of Random Pages

more options

Since the latest update, "Other Bookmarks" has taken up residence where I cannot remove it, so having never seen the folder before I decided to check it. Almost nothing in there is bookmarks. Near every page saved to the "Other Bookmarks" folder is a seemingly random page from my history (deleted and not) up to within a recent few months, which it then becomes my actual primary bookmarks (which I'll have to move, great to know my bookmarks started getting saved to a different folder). Is this meant to serve as an invasive ~highlights from your history~ a la your homepage thumbnails when none are pinned? Or is it some kind of absolutely wacky error with it trying to stuff my history into bookmarks? I'll emphasize just so it's not mistaken, up until the last few pages, every single page saved in "Other Bookmarks" is a random page from my history in chronological order, they are NOT bookmarked and have no reason to be. What causes this and why is this even a thing?

Hi Merrios, "Other Bookmarks" is the current name of the old "Unsorted Bookmarks" bucket. When you click the star icon in the address bar to add a new bookmark, it is saved in Other Bookmarks by default.

I don't know why you have random stuff in Other Bookmarks. Do you use any session-saving extensions? Some of them store open tabs in bookmarks.

If you open the Library window (Ctrl+Shift+O as in "Organizer"), Firefox should list the contents of the Other Bookmarks folder. If the Added column is not visible, you can right-click any column heading (like Name or Location) and add Added. Then you can sort by that column to see whether there is any pattern to when they were added. And of course if none of them look useful, you can trash them all.

Now did this come up because Other Bookmarks appeared on the Bookmarks Toolbar? This is part of a set of changes to the bar. Firefox 85 will have a right-click option to remove Other Bookmarks, but if you can't tolerate it for a couple more weeks, you can turn off this bundle of changes for now. Here's how:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste toolb and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 preference to switch the value from true to false

If you want Firefox to save new bookmarks in a different folder by default, there's an add-on for that:
