The Primary Password option is great to have when you need it but I am looking to see if there is a way that it can autofill acct and password info while only restricting access to view or edit the credentials (and not prompt for the primary password on first use).

In other words, the primary password would only be requested if you get into Firefox security settings but would otherwise work on websites without prompting for the primary/master password.

I do realize that the current workflow is good in some cases but this need is to allow users to access to certain sites/accounts without also giving the permission to view or copy the login info.

Is this possible via about:config or some other way?

Ah - another detail.

This may be restricted to opening a private window but the need would be there as well just the same, to pass credentials that are stored.

No, that is not possible. The Primary Password is actually used to encrypt the usernames and passwords and only if you enter the PP then the logins are unlocked (decrypted) and can be filled in a login form. That is why it is important not to forget the PP as resetting the PP means that you lose all logins. Once you have entered the PP during a session then the logins are unlocked and that Firefox asks for the PP to inspect the password or copy the password to the clipboard is merely a cosmetic security measure, but isn't necessary to access the logins.
