Downloads preference for firefox on my imac won't work. Recently had a system default which corrupted my Documents and Downloads files. I created new files called "My new Documents" and "My New Downloads". New Documents file works fine. Firefox preferences won't let me enter or choose a new downloads file preference.

What site are you referring to here. You need to provide the site URL so others can see what it is doing. And folder as My New Documents and My New Downloads are created by the O/S not Firefox it usually uses the O/S download folder. Those folder settings you describe is something I would expect being a Windows O/S user would create and the "Download" folder where Firefox usually download to when first used unless the user make or creates different folder for this download action.
