Suddenly everytime I open Firefox a new Firefox icon appears on my desktop toolbar. if I open Firefox three times I'll have three new icons - as well as the alias Firefox icon I've had in the toolbar for years. No idea why this has begun to happen. How do I get this to stop? (I'm using a 2017 21.5 inch IMac with Big Sure OS.)

Thanks.

Do you have "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" enabled?

Yep, I do have "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" enabled. All settings remain as they have always been, so this phenomena of mutilple aliases appearing must be based on something else.

This is our bug in version 112. Devs are looking into it rn.

This is Bug 1827486 - Firefox 112.0 leaving extra icon in macOS dock when "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" enabled

Happy in a way to hear that it is a bug in the program. Otherwise you begin to think your individual computer has been compromised. Hope the bug can be fixed soon. It seems now that eveytime I open Firefox two extra aliases appear in my desktop toolbar. See image attached.

Maybe this issue?

Mine is a variation on this bug...in that I don't have 'recent apps' enabled in my Dock, and I don't get a one-off additional icon.

I get HUNDREDS popping in & out whenever I quit.

Hi cor-el.

I went to the question link that you suggest above and the suggestion it makes has solved my problem. Here is the message I left on that page.

"Hello all those who have been trying to help me with this problem. I have just done as bablouie above suggests and that has stopped the appearance of strange new Firefox aliases in the toolbar when I shut down Firefox. It is a solution but I guess the question remains: why was this penomena happening when before, when "show recent application" was checked, these strange artifacts were not appearing. Still, I guess, a bug that needs to be worked out."
