same problem; even after installing flash 10, that then install firefox plugin too, then sound is ok ... till next reboot where i get back flash 9 plugin under firefox 3.6.3 ....

I did solve the problem . It turned out that the PCM slider in Kmix was all the way down by default after installation. That is a bad default. Also the documentation for Kmix doesn't adequately explain what the PCM control is. In fact I searched the Internet for 15 minutes and I still don't even know what "P" or "C" or "M" stands for.

This cost me a couple of hours and then a very simple solution worked, in kubuntu 10.04:

  1. left-click the speaker icon in the system tray
  2. left-click "Mixer" button
  3. slide "PCM" up

What a brainless default setting! Should really be updated by kubuntu.
