On one site, farangtalk.com i can no longer see pictures, use emoticons, or us bold italic etc

I upgraded to firefox 4 but that made no difference. It works on chrome but I find that browser very slow

Try this: right-click the page and choose View Page Info. Then click Permissions and see whether "Load Images Automatically" has been changed to Block. If so, change that and reload and see whether that fixes it.

Regarding bold and italic, do you have a choice between editors (e.g., Standard, Enhanced, Basic)? Maybe try a different editor and see whether that makes any difference.
