On my iMac, a PowerMac6,1, with aPowerPC G4 (3.3) processor (Speed: 1 GHz, Memory: 768 MB) I have used Firefox for years. Current version 3.6.25. When using it, it tells me that it is outdated, won't be supported much longer and I should upgrade. But when trying , it gives me the above message, " latest version is not compatible with my operating system" (but I have MAC OS X 10.5.8, which according to Firefox's web site should be sufficient). Thanks for your help. Albert

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do NOT have; yours is a PPC Mac) and OSX 10.5 or higher.

The good news is that Firefox 3.6.x still supports OSX 10.4 and Macs with the PPC Mac architecture. The bad news is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

You can try the third-party product TenFourFox that supports PPC Macs with OSX 10.4.11 and OSX 10.5.8. Firefox 9 version of TenFourFox is available. The product is based on Firefox released versions. All support is provided by the developer, not by this site:

Currently running FireFox 4.0.1 on my iMac with version 10.6.8 with 2.8 GHz Intel Dual Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and 2 Terabyte hard drive, yet when I attempt to upgrade FireFox I get the same error message saying the latest version is not compatible with my operating system.

Really frustrating that I am unable to upgrade FF. I am about to just give up and use Safari, or even Chrome. I've always preferred FF, but if I can't upgrade what's the point?

Can anyone help? Any advice?

Thanks!

When having problems on a Mac with updating or with the permissions then the easiest thing to do is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version; that is a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
